941 – Study for those who smoke cigarettes

We are looking for people who smoke cigarettes daily to participate in a research study.

The study compares a nicotine pouch product with a nicotine lozenge. The purpose of the study is to investigate how these products are tolerated and how nicotine is absorbed by the body.

Target Group: healthy individuals who smoke cigarettes, aged 21–60 years

Criteria for participation:

  • Be healthy
  • Must have smoked at least 5 cigarettes per day for the past 4 weeks and have smoked daily for the past 18 months
  • Must have experience using snus or nicotine pouches
  • Must be willing to use both nicotine pouches and a nicotine lozenge during the study
  • Must be willing to completely abstain from other nicotine products than those provided in the study (three doses over 5 days)
  • Must not intend to change or stop your nicotine habits during the study
  • Must not have high blood pressure or cardiovascular disease
  • Must not have donated blood in the last three months (or plasma in the last month)
  • Women of childbearing potential must be willing to use contraception approved for the study or be heterosexually abstinent during the study, and must not be, or intend to become, pregnant or breastfeed during the study.

The study consists of two visits to our clinic in Uppsala or Mölndal over a period of approximately six weeks:

Visit 1: Health check-up

Visit 2: Testing of three nicotine products – one nicotine pouch tested on two occasions and one nicotine lozenge tested on one occasion – over three days. You will stay overnight at the clinic for four days.

Compensation:

SEK 12,610 compensation for your time and participation in the study, plus travel expenses.
