How study participation works

How study participation works

Once you have registered your interest in participating in clinical studies at CTC, our staff will contact you if you fit into any of the ongoing studies. Please note that your participation is entirely voluntary, and you can withdraw at any time.

Step 1: Health Check-up

During the health check-up, you will receive oral and written information from a nurse and a doctor.

The written information includes details about:

  • the overall research plan
  • the purpose of the research
  • the methods that will be used
  • the potential consequences and risks of the research
  • who is responsible for the study
  • that participation in the research is voluntary, and your right to withdraw at any time

After receiving both written and oral information about the study, you will have the opportunity to privately ask our doctor questions about the study before deciding whether or not to participate. If you choose to participate in the study, both you and the doctor will sign a consent form. Please note that you can choose to withdraw from the study at any time after the consent form is signed. No study-related examinations will be performed before you and the doctor have signed the consent form.

Step 2: Samples and checks are performed and typically include the following activities

  • Medical examination
  • ECG, Blood pressure, height and weight, sometimes additional study-specific examinations
  • Blood samples
  • Urine sample
  • Drug test, we have zero tolerance (read more about our drug policy)
  • Pregnancy test for women of childbearing age

Step 3: If you meet all criteria for participation

You can now be booked into your desired participation group and are welcome to join the study! Since we have a fixed number of participants who need to start the study on specific dates, we always book more people for the health check than the number who will actually start the study. If “your” group is full, you may be offered a reserve spot or the option to participate at a later date.

Step 3: If you do not meet all criteria for participation

If you do not meet any of the required criteria for participation, our study staff will call you to inform you.

Compensation in clinical studies is taxable, and deductions for any food served at the clinic are made according to tax agency regulations. Travel expenses and compensation for loss of income may be provided in some studies. The financial compensation is determined in relation to the scope of the study.
