Study 1166
Would you like to participate in a study to evaluate a new blood-thinning medication?
Coronary artery disease is often caused by the inner surface of the heart’s coronary arteries hardening and becoming covered with plaque (atherosclerosis). This contributes to a narrowing of the artery, which can cause angina, a heart attack, or the plaque to rupture, triggering a clotting process. This, in turn, can lead to the formation of a blood clot that blocks blood flow in the coronary artery, or the clot can break loose and travel to another part of the body, causing a stroke or a pulmonary embolism.
Blood-thinning medications reduce the risk of blood clots forming and help the body’s own system dissolve clots that have already formed. All blood-thinning medications carry a certain risk of bleeding, and it is important to develop new medications that potentially carry a lower risk.
About the study
The investigational drug (RBD1119) is being developed to prevent the formation of blood clots by reducing the production of coagulation factor XI in the clotting process. The goal of this study is to evaluate the safety and efficacy of the investigational drug and to determine how your body metabolizes and breaks down the drug.
Study participants are randomly assigned to receive either the study drug or a placebo (saline solution without an active ingredient), and the treatment is administered via subcutaneous injection on two occasions. The study involves 9 clinic visits over approximately 11 months. All participants undergo a health screening before enrollment and are then monitored through regular clinic visits for checkups, including an ECG, blood pressure measurements, and blood tests.
The study is being conducted at our clinic in Stockholm.
Criteria for participation:
To participate in the study, you must, among other things:
- is 50 years old or older
- has stable coronary artery disease
- has been undergoing treatment with Trombyl (acetylsalicylic acid) for 3 months
